Science Trek is a place where parents, kids, and educators can watch short, educational videos on a variety of science topics. Every Monday Science Trek releases a new video that introduces children to math, science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) career potentials in a fun, informative way.(Science Trek Music) Blood looks like one substance but blood is made up of lots of different parts.
There's 150 billion red blood cells in one ounce of blood.
The human body manufactures about 17 million red blood cells per second.
Red blood cells make up about half of your blood.
Next, there are 5 basic types of white blood cells including Granulocytes, Monocytes and lymphocytes.
White blood cells make up only less than one percent of your blood, but they play a very important role.
Granulocytes fight bacterial, fungal and parasite infections.
Monocytes eventually break down and remove foreign organisms and dying cells from your body.
And lymphocytes make up your immune system.
Next are platelets.
These small parts of cells help control bleeding.
And finally, there's plasma.
Plasma is the pale-yellow liquid part of your blood and holds all the blood cells together.
All of these parts of your blood: plasma, platelets, red and white blood cells, work together to keep you alive and growing.
