Hey everyone, my name is Caroline Carlile, this is my dad, Jay Carlile, my cousin, Josephine Hansoroth, and my brother JayJ Carlile.
And we are SmallTown Strings, and we're so excited to play some music for you guys tonight on Inland Sessions.
Here's the bill you can keep the change for a 30 cent cup of coffee windows down, Living on the road, I got big ideas and half the rent There must be something greater No means or plans, but still I go It's tires and rust and canyon dust It's dragging down the highway I just carry more then I can tow I got to make Austin in half the time that I slept in this morning Speakers blown out on my radio Suitcase packed with things that I don't need It doesn't all add up, but it feels all right to me.
Daughter of a ramblin Father Aint all Im gonna ever be And I close my eyes and I see someone elses dreams I can't keep money, I can't keep time Just burn holes in my pockets Can't save a dime To save my soul.
Suitcase packed with things that I don't need It doesn't all add up, but it feels alright to me.
Daughter of a ramblin Father Aint all Im gonna ever be And I close my eyes and I see Youre gonna learn some people have two faces One they show, and one that's true We got a lot to hide.
It's better just to face it.
But don't you let it reface you Suitcase packed with things that I don't need It doesn't all add up, but it feels alright to me.
Daughter of a ramblin Father Aint all Im gonna ever be And I close my eyes and I see someone elses dreams My biggest influence is Dolly Parton and John Prine and the Indigo Girls.
My biggest influence is probably Dirks Bentley and John Prine.
There was a man called South Laredo Drinkin black coffee, sittin on a horse he named Silverado He was known for many faces, many names around the world, and he always was the ruin of blue eyed, small-town girls Two, three, four Well, he grew up mean as a poor boy learning how to steal and fight Tearing up the town and runnin ragged through the night He was terrible but handsome had the devil's very charm And he promised love the world above winning over naive hearts And if you listen, you can hear his ghost sing in the middle of the night itll echo in your dreams Yodele Yodele Well, he was sitting in his corner booth and looking for fight Smell of whiskey on his breath and a hunger in his eyes Till a blue eyed man stood up and said your barks worse than your bite And I'll challenge you to a duel and end your wretched life The two men paced off for their face off You could hear their heartbeats pound A gentle wind and rusting hinge were the only other sounds The people froze while the two men chose a place to take their stand But Laredo wasn't fast enough for a blue eyed brother's hand And if you listen, you can hear his ghost sing in the middle of the night itll echo in your dreams Yodele Yodele Now all you whiskey drinkin cowboys best remember Keep your tongue And remember South Laredo and a life That ends in blood Baby sisters got a brother who will live life on the run Baby sister's got a daddy too With a shovel and a gun And if you listen, you can hear his ghost sing in the middle of the night itll echo in your dreams Yodele Yodele I wrote this song to help with my anxiety.
And for all the people out there who think I'm being quiet, I'm really just listening.
I think too far ahead All the things I should of said takes away my time, washes away my life The worry wears me down till I'm staring at the ground, Thinking about what's next Terrified of death Some things are better left unsaid But these leftover sentences stay in my head There's no way to let them free my mind is a prison and there's no key It's hard to tell the truth But its worse to tell the lie People pick and choose seems to get ‘em by I get smaller in the crowd My headaches block them out If the light shines down on me I'm afraid that they might see Some things are better left unsaid.
But these leftover sentences stay in my head.
There's no way to let them free my mind is a prison and there's no key Any time I speak out, Feels like Im talking loud So the silence is what I found.
Takes away my time washes away my life Some things are better left unsaid.
But these leftover sentences stay in my head.
There's no way to let them free my mind is a prison and there's no key There's no way to let them free my mind is a prison and there's no key I think what I would tell someone about PBS is, number one, their kids shows They basically raised me, my siblings and number two.
It's a great it's a great outlet for small, especially in our experience, for small musical artists to be on TV for the first time.
I read all your notes, but I can't remember what I'm looking for.
But I still read through the roller coaster, searching for the truth But don't beat yourself up Don't lock it all in You always paint yourself in the prettiest of colors While everybody else gave you shade You spend everyone else's time in tears like you spend money but won't spare a dime for anyone you love But don't beat yourself up Don't lock it all in Time is on your side Ask anyone who knows you, You can tell your lies in anyway you need to And it doesn't really matter what message you send Doesn't really matter what message you send It doesnt really matter what new ear you bend Doesn't really matter what new ear you bend And I know your getting older now but in fact you didnt choose it because of how you've acted all this time And sometimes I feel bad for you because I can see right through it The fantasy you're hiding behind But don't beat yourself up Don't lock it all in Time is on your side Ask anyone who knows you, You can tell your lies in anyway you need to And it doesn't really matter what message you send Doesn't really matter what message you send It doesnt really matter what new ear you bend Doesn't really matter what new ear you bend Now you're sitting on the edge You only know how to feel desperate because you have been acting all this time And I know that things are hard for you and you feel you can't control ‘em it makes you want to run away and hide But don't beat yourself up Don't lock it all in Time is on your side Ask anyone who knows you, You can tell your lies in anyway you need to And it doesn't really matter what message you send Doesn't really matter what message you send It doesnt really matter what new ear you bend Doesn't really matter what new ear you bend Fall into a dream again I'm livin here outside my skin Paper planes and painted skies No monsters here, no tears to cry tonight Just willow trees and mossy stones No broken hearts, no broken bones And I have wings and I can fly.
No end of days, no fear of night And I can hear my mother's voice Rising up above the noise and calls me to dream again.
And I'm waking from the dream again Ink stained fingers, colored pens There's wrinkled papers round my bed, And another world inside my head And I long to hear my mother's voice Rising of above the noise and calls me to dream again.
Oh, oh, oh, oh Oh, oh, oh, oh Oh, oh, oh, oh Oh, oh, oh, oh I dont know why But I just can't sleep Livin a lie outside my dreams I don't know why, but I just can't sleep Livin a lie outside my dreams I dont know why But I just can't sleep Livin a lie outside my dreams I dont know why But I just can't sleep I dont know why I dont know why Dream again.
Dream again.

Don't be tied down to anchors of hate and despair because they won't get you that far Put your head up and always fade into light And don't worry, there's people who care Put your hand in mine well stumble through this night Stumble and cry We might stumble and cry The pathway is full of rocks and potholes, but together will try There's always more to life It makes you tired when tomorrow seems so unsure and question are all that you've got Come sit by my fire Cuz I've got answers for you And if we listen, we might have a shot Put your hand in mine well stumble through this night Stumble and cry We might stumble and cry The pathway is full of rocks and potholes, but together will try There's always more to life It might feel uncertain, It might feel undone But when the world gets back turning will realize that we've won Put your hand in mine well stumble through this night Stumble and cry We might stumble and cry The pathway is full of rocks and potholes, but together will try There's always more to life Thank you guys so much for having us tonight on Inland Sessions.
