We welcome a local country music group, the Sam Leyde Band.
They visit our studios performing original country rock music.
Well my baby said another mans been coming around Said his daddy is a banker and he owns the whole town I gotta go No, I cant stay My Babys in Billings and somebodys tryin to take her away Hit I-90 ‘bout a quater to 8 Had to fill the car with gas as I was leaving Coeur dAlene I gotta go No, I can't wait.
My baby's in Billings and somebodys tryin take her away Come on now!
Driving through the night got my foot on the floor Got a ticket in Missoula going a hundred twenty four I gotta go No, I can't stay My baby's in Billings and somebodys tryin take her away Come on, take it away!
Well I pulled up to her house About a quarter to four The Mercedes in the driveway Told me all I need to know, Im too late No, she wouldn't wait My baby's in Billings and somebody done took her away My baby's in Billings and somebody done took her away I so I first got into music.
I didn't pick up a guitar till I was 18.
There was this girl that I liked.
I had made up a song that I wanted to play for her, but I didn't know how to play guitar, so I had to learn.
So I learned like a few basic chords and and I played it for her and she said, Oh, what a what a nice thing that a friend would do for another friend.
I was like, Yeah, totally, buddy.
Oh, you know, just stab me right in the heart.
But I stuck with the guitar.
Didn't end up with the girl, which turned out okay.
So, yeah, stuck with music.
We're the Sam Leyde Band, we're from Coeur dAlene, Idaho.
And this is a song called Whiskey and Thorns.
When I was a boy.
Well, I ask my daddy then Is there any way in this life to get ahead?
I was just a child, but I never will forget.
He sat me down upon his knee and this is what he said.
He said this life will chew you up and spit you out He said this life will leave you bloody and battered on the ground He said, if youre gonna mess with the bull You know, you gonna get the horns Sometimes life is all roses and margaritas Sometimes it's whiskey and thorns Well, I heard my daddys words And I took them all to heart When I became a man, I left to make a brand new start It took a couple years maybe more than just a few To realize the words My daddy told me all were true He said this life will chew you up and spit you out He said this life will leave you bloody and battered on the ground He said, if youre gonna mess with the bull You know, you gonna get the horns Sometimes life is all roses and margaritas Sometimes it's whiskey and thorns Well, I'm plenty old now, couple kids and a wife Someday them kids will ask about the secret to this life Ill tell ‘em nothing good ever came from sittin round and cryin So get busy with your livin or your gettin busy dyin Because this life will chew you up and spit you out This life will leave you bloody and battered on the ground If youre gonna mess with the bull better take it by the horns Sometimes life is all roses and margaritas Sometimes it's whiskey and thorns you know, growing up we had music in the house all the time, kind of all over the board, you know.
So I got a broad spectrum of music when I was a kid.
Since I started playing music myself, I think people like Ray LaMontagne are you know, he's been a big influence on me.
Chris Stapleton, Tyler Childers.
I think songs that that really touched people are, you know, things that people can relate to.
That's what really I really love that kind of thing.
Well, this next song is the title track off of our album is called Big Small Town.
We could ride our bikes forever, just the tires and the road together The wind in our hair, man the freedom No helmets, nah we didnt need ‘em Wed hit up the country store The one that aint there no more Be home when the street lights came on Yeah, those kind of days they're gone.
Cuz there's a parking lot where paradise was They're building condos and driving the prices up It used to be washed up Silverados, now its all Range Rovers and Tahoes Used to be a country mile now its miles of houses going up and down Used to feel safe to wander round You could go to sleep and not hear a sound Except the peace and quiet That you chased and found Things change, it feels strange I guess thats life now Living in a big small town Aint nothing wrong with things progressing, Yeah, I should probably accept it Cuz theyll all just move on without me But Ill always miss how it used to be When it was washed up Silverados, now its all Range Rovers and Tahoes Used to be a country mile now its miles of houses going up and down Used to feel safe to wander round You could go to sleep and not hear a sound Except the peace and quiet That you chased and found Things change, it feels strange I guess thats life now Living in a big small town Theres a parking lot where paradise was When I drive around all I could think of When it was washed up Silverados, now its all Range Rovers and Tahoes Used to be a country mile now its miles of houses going up and down Used to feel safe to wander round You could go to sleep and not hear a sound Except the peace and quiet That you chased and found Things change, it feels strange I guess thats life now Living in a big small town I miss my small town This next song is one that's our most streamed song on all the streaming platforms.
It's literally made us dozens of dollars on Spotify.
But before we sing this one, I want to introduce the band to you.
Over here on the lead guitar is Dillon Campbell.
Back behind me on the drums is Justin Ruggles.
Back there on the keyboard that's Aaron Anstett.
And on the bass guitar is Mike Hensley.
And I'm Sam Leyde.
Were the Sam Leyde Band.
This is a song called The Creek Went Dry.
I had 20 acres up outside of Pray Couple dozen head, good land, good Woman and a little one on the way And a plan to pass it all to him someday Ever since the creek went dry, I got nothing left Ever since the creek we dry I'm all by myself Noticed it in April.
We ain't had no rain for weeks.
By late October my woman decided it was time for her to leave Now I'm all alone No rain, no crop, no hay to feed Ever since the creek went dry, I got nothing left Ever since the creek we dry I'm all by myself Ever since the creek went dry, I got nothing left Ever since the creek we dry I'm all by myself She took everything Everything!
She walked away Ever since the creek went dry, I got nothing left Girl, you know me You know right where I stand Are you going to show me what it takes to be your man?
Now it feels like, Feels like Im running on sand Girl, you got me eating out the palm of your hand You got me burning up You got me running hot now Ready to risk it all Ready to take my shot now Ive been lonely, Ive been all by myself Are you gonna hold me, or are you lovin someone else?
I don't want no, nobody but you Youre the only one I want to hold on to You got me burning up You got me running hot now Ready to risk it all Ready to take my shot now You got me burning up You got me running hot now Ready to risk it all Ready to take my shot now baby I think if the audience came to a show and they took away the fact that we worked really hard and we sweat it out every note and just bleed every note of every song that we played, I think if they took that away, that would be a win for us.
This is a song called Mixtape Summer.
I remember 16 I got my license that spring, I had a beat up yellow CJ-6 I didn't have no worries, nothin made me hurry Except the thought of gettin your sweet kiss When a six pack of Memorex was better than gold A little tape on the corners, pressing play and record It was a Mixtape Summer what a time to be alive Rolling with top down celebrating school's out Didnt have no 9 to 5 Sitting by the radio Waiting for the DJ to play our favorite song Pop it in the tape deck drive out to the lake yeah Were wearing that mixtape out all summer long I remember your eyes Brighter than a sunrise The way theyd light up when those songs came on Dancin in your seat in your cut off blue jeans Baby, lets just drive until we've gone When a six pack of Memorex was better than gold A little tape on the corners, pressing play and record It was a Mixtape Summer what a time to be alive Rolling with top down celebrating school's out Didnt have no 9 to 5 Sitting by the radio Waiting for the DJ to play our favorite song Pop it in the tape deck drive out to the lake yeah Were wearing that mixtape out all summer long It was a Mixtape Summer what a time to be alive Rolling with top down celebrating school's out Didnt have no 9 to 5 Sitting by the radio Waiting for the DJ to play our favorite song Pop it in the tape deck drive out to the lake yeah Woah!
It was a Mixtape Summer what a time to be alive Rolling with top down celebrating school's out Didnt have no 9 to 5 Sitting by the radio Waiting for the DJ to play our favorite song Pop it in the tape deck drive out to the lake yeah Were wearing that mixtape out all summer long All summer long This is a song called Nothing in the World If stare into ‘em too long youre gonna get lost Its like looking through tinted windows into her soul You want to find out what theyre hiding and it doesn't matter what it cost Those big brown eyesll make you lose all your self control Theyre like pools of honey When theyre kissed by the sun Shes gonna be trouble but its gonna be fun Even if you cant dance youre gonna give it a whirl Cuz aint nothing in the world like lovin a brown eyed girl Shes got a firecracker attitude problem with authority Every guy in the room wants to take her out on the floor You want to keep close enough so that your the only one she sees Those deep dark eyesll keep coming back for more Shes gonna make you wanna miss every Saturday night With the boys in the bar under the neon lights All your gonna want to do Is look into those eyes Theyre like pools of honey When theyre kissed by the sun Shes gonna be trouble but its gonna be fun Even if you cant dance youre gonna give it a whirl Cuz aint nothing in the world like lovin a brown eyed girl Shes gonna make you wanna miss every Saturday night With the boys in the bar under the neon lights All your gonna want to do Is look into those eyes Those eyes!
Theyre like pools of honey When theyre kissed by the sun Shes gonna be trouble but its gonna be fun Even if you cant dance youre gonna give her a twirl Cuz aint nothing in the world like lovin a brown eyed girl Cuz aint nothing in the world like lovin a brown eyed girl
