String musicians Sarah Catherine and Roberta play a wide variety of classical and popular songs.
The Riverside Trio on Inland Sessions.
Well, I started taking piano lessons when I was three years old with my grandmother when I was three, and she was very patient with me.
And I then started playing cello.
The public school string program started in the fourth grade, and so I started in my public school music program.
I started in public school in fifth grade.
My brother is two years older than me, and he played cello and I just wanted to do everything he did.
And so and he told me to play viola.
So that's why I chose viola.
I also.
Started in public school.
Fourth grade.
Um, my choices were violin and cello, and I think I went with violin because that's what my friends were doing.
Somehow I was quite determined to not make music my vocation because my mother's a wonderful musician and I knew that it was a difficult path.
And I saw that from watching my mother and just knowing that it was, it would be a tough journey.
But the more I decided that music, I couldn't do that for my vocation, the more I was just drawn into music.
As I studied music theory and everything in college, I just could not stay away.
And so here I am.
I've been playing the cello for 40 years, so it's been quite a journey.
And like Roberta, I, I enjoyed music.
It was fun.
I was lucky to play in some an amazing public school music programs, but I had no intention of going into music.
And here I am.
